Default Nations best wrestler skipping fargo

What are thoughts on David Taylor 5x fargo champ in 6attempts sitting out of Fargo?
Ohio would have had a great shot at 4-5 champions now I'm thinking more like 3 or 4

Fargo just isn't what it used to be.

How much do you think that is a result of the new(er) weight classes?

It definitely was more competitive when they had weights broken down like *(121,132,143,154), but has it made it that much more watered down?

I think the weight classes have somethingto do with it, i think the new rules have something to do with it and another issue, out of Fargo's control, our economy and high gas prices has to be playing a big roll.

There seems to have been a trend a couple of years ago and continuing with some of the top guys not going. Overall I think the rules changes made the biggest difference.

The expense has gotten out of control. For guys from Louisiana to go the cost is prohibitive. They require commitments to several tournaments in addition to Fargo. The total bill would end up being over $2000. That sure limits the number of kids having the opportunity.

Can you explain what you mean out of curiousity? How much of that is tournament related (and how many tournaments) and how much are you estimating for travel and lodging?

They want these kids to compete in the Dixie Duals, 3 tournaments in state, the Southeast Regionals, and the Cadet or Junior National Duals. Plus you have to pay for the week long National Team camp (in New Orleans)and get to Fargo. Cost for Southeast Regionals about $350, cost for National Cadet or Junior Duals about $500, cost for 3 local (in state)tournaments about $350, cost for Fargo about $1600 (that includes the $250 fee for the mandatory "team camp"). If you do not live in New Orleans you have to figure in hotel, gas, and lodging for a week to attend the camp. This is of great detriment to the wrestlers from other areas across the state.

We could not even field a team for the Cadet and/or Junior National Duals this year. Why? Because it costs too much and the powers that be cannot figure that out. The powers that be are stiffling the sport in our state and making it unavailable to a vast majority of folks.

I am puzzled how clubs can make $15,000 to $20,000 on a tournament and then still have these kids pay to represent their state at National tournaments. That seems ridiculous.

Thanks for the details. Didn't realize it was so expensive.

I think the weight classes have everything to do w/ it. I remember when I was back in HS, there would be 12-15 really tough guys in every weight. Now it seems like there are 4 or 5. In the middle weights, there would be pretty much 2.5 high school weights in every Fargo bracket...now there is just 1.
