I never saw the purpose of using an arm bar with the legs in and drives me nuts when kids do it.

Yeah, that's the position I'm talking about. I can't describe anything to do with the legs, I think every leg ride/rider is the same because I don't know squat about it. Kinda like how most people wouldn't think you could describe 8 ways to hit a crossface cradle.

Getting out of the leg ride is all about creating space between you and your opponent. The leg ride is most effective when there is no space. When space is created, it is easy to slip out or put them in bad position to get away.

I even have another way to get out of it but it requires a little athleticism and toughness because it can be painful. When your opponent puts in the half(right side for example purposes), you bridge hard into them and grab the back of their head with the same arm they have the half in. You hook their head and bridge hard and create space. Once done, you hip heist to your right while keeping their head hooked. You usually catch them on their back and can keep them there or they have to bail and they get reversed.

Like I said, this can be a little painful to get out from, but I have found it quite effective in leg ride defense. I've found the forearm hook on their leg can get them in trouble as most kids almost always pull it straight up and never quite get away or get a potentially dangerous call and are put back down.

The best way to get out of legs is avoid getting in them to begin with.

Another reason why I believe that 99% of the time the bottom wrestler should hit an explosive stand up off the whistle and not stop scrambling and fighting for hand control until he's out.

Totally agree. However, the dynamics of college wrestling seem to say otherwise as none of those guys are hitting explosive anything off the whistle. They all seem to be waiting to let the guy put the crab ride in and turn them. Makes no sense to me.

Agre that a quick stand-up helps, however good leg riders can bring you back to that mat while slipping in a leg.

As what coaches today call the way I used to ride them as old school, I myself don't like the way most ride legs today. They have them short and in the croch. I like having one in deep and stretching the guy out and putting him in pain. You are less like to give up a reversal with a deep leg ride.
