Default Indiana v. Illinois All Stars (Howe dec Polz 4-3)

Also, our 145lber, Cosgrove majored Vince Ramos 11-3. That's not a good thing, IU signed Ramos while Purdue got Cosgrove. I've been around wrestling a while like you guys and I don't see NCAA AA talent in Cosgrove.

Woods over Apland was a pretty big upset too!

And yet, Illinois still kicked some booty. Don't mess with the Prairie State!

Indiana won the other dual, so it wasn't as dominating as you think!

Mods, thanks for fixing the title I really screwed that up!

Indiana was also missing some of our best Seniors in the dual. At 130 Churchard would not have been tech'd, at the most majored...lol

At 135 Galka (Northwestern recruit) was not available, he's a 2x state champ. However, he probably would've been tech'd or pinned.

But in all honestly at 171 Samuels would have given Blanton a heck of a match. Cooper is a 2x state champ and 1x runner up as a soph. I know Illinois had some kids missing as well so my argument doesnt really hold up that well.

Yeah, I don't know how valid it is without BJ Futrell, the best wrestler in the state, IMO.

1st period:
No scoring...Walsh the definate aggressor with Adams backing out over and over again.
2nd period:
Walsh chooses down and escapes after being rode a little while. Walsh still the very obvious agressor. This match set the pace for the lack of stall calls in this dual meet. Period ends 1-0 Walsh.
3rd period:
Adams chooses down and escapes. Not much action either way besides Walsh almost scoring on 2 or 3 spin behinds. Adams took a couple shots. Period ends 1-1.
OVERTIME:
Takedown for Adams to win the match 3-1OT. Team score tied 3-3.

171lbs - Jordan Blanton (151-1, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st IL) vs Reid Dickerson (110-27, 5th IN)
1st Period:
Blanton comes out firing scoring 3 takedowns and giving up 2 escapes. He rides out the last 20 or so seconds almost hitting a tilt but no points awarded. Period ends 6-2.
2nd Period:
Dickerson chooses down and gets turned twice for 3pt nearfalls. Blanton then cuts him and goes to work again getting 2 more takedowns giving up 1 escape. He ends the match with a 3pt near fall to get the technical fall. Final on the scoreboard was 20-4. IL leads 8-3

189lbs - Mike Lukowski (121-14, 5th, 1st IL) vs Ryan Konrath (150-17, 3rd, 6th IN)
1st Period:
Lukowski comes out and trades a takedown for an escape. Period ends 2-1.
2nd Period:

215lbs - Ben Apland (119-10, 4th, 1st IL) vs Justin Woods (101-6, 1st IN)
1st Period:
Woods gets a takedown in the first to the surprise of many of the IL fans. Apland gets a reversal to tie it up 2-2 but gives up an escape before the period ends. Woods gets dinged for stalling. 3-2 Woods going into the 2nd.
2nd Period:
Apland takes down and gets the escape to tie it 3-3. He then adds a takedown of his own for the 5-3 lead. Then going into a scramble Woods tosses Ben to his blades nearly securing a fall but scoring 2 reversal and 3 nearfall points to go up 8-5. Apland gets an escape making it 8-6 Woods going into the 3rd.
3rd Period:
Woods chooses down and escapes to lead 9-6. He then gets a takedown to go up 11-6. Apland escapes and gets a takedown himself cutting his deficit to 11-9. Woods escapes for a 12-9 lead and gets dinged for his 2nd stall call making it 12-10. Woods then scores the finishing takedown on Apland for a 14-10 victory to stun the Illinois contingent. Team score at this time 14-6 in IL's favor.

103lbs - Terry Murphy (117-28, 4th IL) vs Blake Wireman (120-65 IN)

IL winning 20-6

112lbs - Andrew Ruettiger (62-25 IL) vs Carlo Martinez (128-30, 6th IN)
1st Period:
Ruettiger in on a shot early but does not score. Martinez gets a takedown after that and rides out the period. 2-0 Martinez
2nd Period:
Ruettiger chooses top. He throws in the legs but Martinez gets a reversal and rides him out again. 4-0 Martinez
3rd Period:
Martinez chooses down and gets an escape. He then goes takedown, cut, takedown and then in an effort to pick up the major cuts Ruettiger again. He gets the takedown and wins the match 11-2 securing the major decision.
Team score IL up 20-10

119lbs - Nate Fitzenrider (150-28, 3rd IL) vs Donovan Alderman (150-18, 3rd IN)
1st Period:
Alderman starts the match in on a deep shot that looked like 2 to me but was not awarded. Fitzenrider comes back with a shot that also looked like 2 but also was not awarded. At least the refs were consistant. The period ends 0-0.
2nd Period:
Alderman chooses down and doesn't do much of anything. He gets dinged for stalling and ridden out. 0-0 score end of 2nd.
3rd Period:
Fitzenrider chooses down and after being riddin for a bit gets an escape for the 1-0 lead. Not much action after that the match ends 1-0.
IL 23-10

130lbs - Kyle Williams (175-13, 1st in North Dakota, 4th, 4th, 3rd IL) vs ??????????
1st Period:
Williams with a takedown and then racks up the back points. Wins by tech fall 15-0 in the 1st period.
IL up 28-10

135lbs - Josh Kratovil (150-5, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st IL) vs Jae Van Horn (121-37 IN)
1st period:
Kratovil comes out hard scoring 3 takedowns and 4 sets of back points in the 1st for the 17-2 technical fall.
IL up 33-10

140lbs - Eric Terrazas (no record, 3rd, 3rd IL) vs Chris Mascaro (112-29, 2nd IN)
1st Period:
Terrazas on the offensive but no points. Mascaro warned for stalling. Period ends 0-0.
2nd Period:
Terrazas goes down and escapes. He is still on the offensive and Mascaro gives up a stalling point. 2-0 score.
3rd Period:
Mascaro goes down and escapes. No more scoring match ends 2-1 for Terrazas.
IL up 36-10

Now is when it got rough for Illinois
145lbs - Vince Ramos (174-21, 5th, 3rd, 3rd, 1st IL) vs Brennan Cosgrove (174-13, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st IN)
1st Period:
Ramos in deep on a single for over a minute but does not get a takedown. Cosgrove comes in and gets one of his own. Ramos escapes and Cosgrove adds another takedown then rides out leading 4-1.
2nd Period:
Cosgrove starts down and gets the escape. He then gets another takedown and rides out the period to lead 7-1. It was about this point Ramos looked tired.
3rd Period:
Ramos goes down and gets an escape. Cosgrove takes him down again and rides him for a bit. Then with about 30 seconds left Cosgrove cuts him looking for the major and gets a takedown with 10 secs left on the clock to major decision Vince Ramos 11-3.
IL still leading 36-14

152lbs - Jimmy Duffy (no record, 2nd, 3rd IL) vs Kyle Ulrey (188-14, 3rd, 1st IN)
1st Period:
Duffy comes out and gets a takedown to start the match. Ulrey then reverses him and gets 2 VERY quick back points. It was at this time the crowd booed a bit. Duffy gets an escape and the period ends 4-3 Ulrey.
2nd Period:
Ulrey goes down and Duffy rides him out the whole period.
3rd Period:
Duffy goes down and gets the escape to tie the match 4-4. Towards the middle of the period Duffy has Ulrey in a standing front headlock and the ref jumps down and hits him with a technical violation for an illegal hold(choking). From my point of view it looked like a standard front head but I'm not a referee. This puts Duffy down 5-4 and he takes a quick shot off the whistle and hit with his 3rd caution giving Ulrey another point. 6-4 Ulrey wins with 2 tech violation points and 2 gift backpoints. The crowd booed considerably after the match ended.
Team score IL still up 36-17

MATCH OF THE DAY
Conrad Polz (175-15, 3x IL STATE CHAMPION) vs Andrew Howe (192-1, Multiple time IN STATE CHAMPION)
1st Period:
Polz starts out on the offensive and gets a takedown 22 seconds into the first. Howe gets an escape quickly and the period ends with most of the shots being taken by Polz.
2nd Period:
Howe goes down and gets an escape immediately. He has one of the best standups I've ever seen on the high school level. Polz continues to work offense but Howe starts to look more comfortable out there and starts working some of his own. Some nice scrambles but no more scoring period ends 2-2.
3rd period:
Polz goes down and is riddin for a while. Midway through the period he gets an escape to go up 3-2 but does a lot of backing up while Howe is relentlessly attacking. Polz gets hit for stalling. Howe gets in deep on a shot and SCORES with 25 or so seconds left. Polz is down and doesn't work for a standup just keeps trying to hit what looked like a roll to initiate a scramble but can't escape. The match ends 4-3 in favor of Andrew Howe. Very exciting match to watch hopefully these two will battle again in the finals of Fargo.

Exhibition 125lbs - Mark Augle (no record, 5th IL) vs Craig Fruth (110-44, 7th IN)
1st Period:
The match starts out in typical Mark Augle fashion. He controls the pace, keeps a solid stance and scores on his shot for the 2-0 lead. Fruth gets the escape and the period ends 2-1.
2nd Period:
Augle starts down and gets the escape. He then scores another takedown and rides out to lead 5-1 going into the 3rd.
3rd Period:
Fruth takes down and gets an escape. Both wrestlers trade some shots and with about 10 seconds left get into a scramble with the buzzer going off as Augle was in deep on a standing double leg. Final score 5-2 Augle

I hope he realizes that when he gets to college there is no 112lb weight class and that he won't be wrestling 15 and 16 year old kids.

He'll be fine. He'll put on weight and thrive at 125.
