Wins his state final 18-8 over a kid who was 50-1 on the year. Would have liked to see more of his mat wrestling to try and guess how he'd project for next year, but a very, very impressive job.

Welch v. Winston is probably THE high school match of the year, although it doesn't seem as though we're going to get a shot to see it.

Now he gets to go to Northwestern and wrestle Benefiel, and Ryan Bertin every day.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Welch can do next year. He's been dominant in California for some time now, and it's damn near impossible to take him down.

I'd pick Oliver vs. Graff as the high school match of the year, and we'll get to see it at the Dapper Dan. Welch v Winston is a probably a close second though.

I agree, and soooo looking forward to it!

And back to the subject, yes Welch is a major talent and will have a hell of a college career. He kind of reminds me of Askren (looks/body/hair/movements).

are you kiding? Even though Welch is very dominant on nuetral, he's still been taken down several times this year, not just at midlands.

That's funny, I was going to post the same thing. He's got some funk to him.

And I'd say even a little slicker and quicker on the feet. Going to be a good one.

Hasn't shown that he's needed the funk just yet, as he's blowing dudes away with the raw speed and slickness. When his competitiors inevitably start evening up with him, he'll need to rely on some tricks. Then we'll get to see what his funk is all about. He'll be good with it, he's flexible as hell.
