Wins his state final 18-8 over a kid who was 50-1 on the year. Would have liked to see more of his mat wrestling to try and guess how he'd project for next year, but a very, very impressive job.
Welch v. Winston is probably THE high school match of the year, although it doesn't seem as though we're going to get a shot to see it.
Now he gets to go to Northwestern and wrestle Benefiel, and Ryan Bertin every day.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Welch can do next year. He's been dominant in California for some time now, and it's damn near impossible to take him down.
I'd pick Oliver vs. Graff as the high school match of the year, and we'll get to see it at the Dapper Dan. Welch v Winston is a probably a close second though.
