I always thought the Connecticut State Tournament was one of the biggest . . . . . . . . in Connecticut .

I would like to witness the PA state tourney, the quality of the two states are extremely similiar I honestly can not say any negative thing on PA wrestling they are right there in the top three every year.
(I knew this topic would spark some energy) But this is the best time of year culminating with the NCAA D1 finals right in the middle of us all!

These are some #'s I found on Colorado.
2008-73rd annual
896 wrestlers from 4 classes
227 schools
40,000+ fans
BTW it looks like all these states put on a great show!

They used to be held at St. Johns Arena. That would be a sellout or close to it. But I think they moved it to the Schottenstein Center which seats about 20,000.

Wow... from what I am hearing, the excitement, energy, chaos, etc, it looks like I am going to have to make it to the state finals to face Hunter Stiebert. No, but for real I think I am going to go to the State tournament in Ohio, sounds like fun.

Have any of you ever been to a Southern high school wrestling state championship? NC, TN, GA, or worse Alabama and it's Western neighbors, are all so different when compared to the Northern tourneys.
The interest level is so drastic.

It's Hunter Stieber, without the "t" at the end

Also another thing I was wondering, how much does it cost in other states? It cost 50$ for all the sessions in Ohio.

The IHSAA decided to screw the Iowa fans. It used to be a 3-day, 6-session tournament, with $6 tickets. Then when the new arena was being built, they changed to 4 days, with more sessions to "lessen the congestion downtown." Wells Fargo is done now, and it's still a four day tournament. Now there are 10 sessions at $8 a pop.

It doesn't seat 20k for any sporting event. 17,500 for hockey and 19,500 for basketball. They can't use all of the seating for the state touney even for the finals because of space considerations for mats, award area, media, etc. I think 17k is more than capacity and includes media, etc.

It is something to behold when all 10 mats are laid out on thursday and the place is buzzing with anticipation.

I'll be watching these next few weeks with a lot of enthusiasm for one particular wrestler.

A young cousin of mine has a solid shot at winning the title at HWT in D1. Keep an eye out for Cody Beatty.
