Maresh is a beast. I think he turns out to be the better wrestler between he and Disney should he choose wrestling over football.

I’ve been watching (and analyzing) wrestling for fifty years and I’ve never seen anything like it – nothing that even compares with it. A 15-year old freshman wrestling for Monroeville, of all places, comes out and beats everyone put before him. Everything he does works. It’s like Roy Hobbs in The Natural – whatever he wants to do he does. I saw Chris Phillips in his first varsity experience defeat, in a single day, three of the best
171’s in the country from Blair, Graham, and St Edward. He did it while battling the flu and he did it his way, ten takedowns for Phillips and none for the three opponents. That was followed up by a dominating win at Brecksville that included a 23-10 win over the Georgia state runner-up. Amazing. I mean there were certainly clues that this might happen eventually – three junior high state titles and a Cadet National title, but as a freshman at 171#. (Brakeman on Chris Phillips from Monroeville, OH) This kid should be ranked #1. But because he is a freshman and everyone else is a Sr. he is #5. Anyone else with these wins underlined above would be #1.

Left out CAM TESSARI (MONROEVILLE) 112. Monroeville, Ohio has the Fab 4.

103 Hunter Steiber (FR)
112 Cam Tessari (FR)
119 Logan Seiber (SO)
171 Chris Phillips (FR)

These kids are awesome. All four are projected State Champs by Brakeman. this would only be third time in Ohio State history that a sweep of these weight classes has occurred. (1946,1947)

Whippet, I agree with 99% of your statements regarding Phillips. He is a monster, and an argument can be made for him being #1. My #1 is Quentin Wright though. He's been tearing through PA for years, and I'd take him over Phillips.

Having said that, this year might be the only year when anyone would be favored over Phillips in HS.

If I were king of the world...I'd ban all forms of national high school wrestling rankings.

Someone should come up with a level system and rate a kid as a 5 star, 4 star, etc.

If a kid wins states a few times and is an AA at fargo... he is a 5 star. Period

You could have 10 five stars at a weight class or you could have zero.

If someone beats the 5 star kid and has some other good credentials, then he can be a 5 star too.

Knowing most of the PA kids, I've never seen a national ranking that I came close to agreeing with. And sometimes I even think certain PA kids are ranked too high.

----------

Flop, I agree with you about Q. Wright. I can't believe he is still in high school. He seem to have been around for ever.
