Thread: Deitchler v. Salazar

    Default Deitchler v. Salazar

Just got done watching the match from flo. Its not on the website yet, it found it on the tool bar.

Everyone should watch this match between two great competitors, coming down to the final seconds of the match.

I've been following Dietchler for the last year or so and in the match I saw from the Christmas Tourney (also on flo) it looked like a very talented kid who was doing some funky stuff with a lesser opponent.

After all the upsets this year(Ramos losing at the Ironman, Mason losing at the Ironman, the shenanigans at 171 with Phillips from OH and Spangler from IL), it had crossed my mind that maybe, just maybe, Dietchler might be setting himself up for an upset by wrestling the way he did. I'm not judging the kid, he's super talented, but 07-08 wrestling is sort of following the College football season.

Now, I don't know anything about Salazar except that he is from Utah, he's ranked nationally, and he won at Reno. He obviously is also a talented kid and I don't know if it could be considered an upset, but for the first 2 periods, it looked like Dietchler was gogin to go down.

Man was I wrong. He came back, scored some very efficient quick takedowns, and it appeard like he broke his opponent in the third.

Whats the story with Salazar? How tough was this match, besides the obvious? would it have been a major upset, minor, or a push had he won? Is he projected anywhere for college, maybe ISU?

I was really impressed with his match, and I'm going to go do a little bit more research and see if I can't find any film on him anywhere.

PS - after reading the thread on the Clash right below this one, it looks like Slazar is either ranked 2 or 3. Stupid Squid

Just got back from the 1st session, the match was great. Both guys wrestled hard for 6 minutes. Very impressive match for Diechtler for staying in the match after the first couple TDs.
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Deitchler beat Salazar by 7 last year in folkstyle at NHSCA Juniors. I think he could have this year as well, but wrestled sloppy. Salazar did place 3rd at Fargo Junior Nationals last year where Deitchler beat him in 3 periods.

that was a really good match...no doubt...i can tell you that salazar was so tired that he let JD in at will on that throw by ankle pick or whatever the hell it was...he hit it three times in a row i think...

i can also tell you that any offense salazar had was off of sloppy wrestling from JD early in the match...i am excited to have JD AND Mario Mason coming to the U next year...those two are going to be awesome in maroon and gold for the next 4 to 5 years.
