The most popular headgear right now are the cliff keen tornado and probably followed up by the Brute Zer0-g.

I like the old Cliff Keen with the metal earguards, that's the only headgear I ever wore besides the real old plastic grade school headgear. One thing about the metal earguards though, the snap fell off, I think my sweat ate through the metal.

Why don't wrestlers try the headgear Rugby players wear? They wear it for the same reason wrestlers do (protect against cauliflower and protect cauliflower). Never seem the headgear move, never see the players adjust it. I thought it looked better than the ear muffs wrestlers use.

Does anyone remember the Wolverine headgear? They had red-white-and blue strong elastic straps between the ear protectors. There were no snaps or velcro used to secure a chin strap. All straps were stitched permanent. The straps were laid out just like the Keen four strap headgear. There was also a center strap that ran from forehead to the back of the head (much like the strap made out of athletic tape used by high school wrestlers). This strap was stitched to the other four straps, so as to maintain their net-like positioning. As a user of the Wolverine headgear, you had to grab each ear protector and forcefuly pull them apart, wide enough to get your head in, and then slowly let the headgear collapse tightly around your head. (Kind of like the movie Alien, when the creature afixed itself to the guy's head). I ordered enough for all team members, back in the 1977-1978 school year, and was super impressed with the way they stayed on the wrestlers', and also I was amazed just how durable they were. I remember I ordered them from Gopher Sports. They came in Small, Medium, and Large. A few years later, I wanted to order some more, but they were nowhere to be found. They were the best headgear I have ever been around. |
