Let's start a thread specific to the Northeast Ohio Conference.
Why not.
There won't be much to say for a while, but it should have some great wrestling before all is said and done.
In response to my inquiry about the competition set-up for wrestling (I understand the division alignments will vary from sport to sport), Jerry Des Forges, who I believe coaches at Valley Forge, posted the following on OhioWrestling.net:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
"The NOC (Northeast Ohio Conference) will be a combination of the Western Reserve Conference and the Pioneer Conference w/ Two Lake Erie League schools. There will be a total of 18 teams. They will be split into three divisions. With the teams competing in three duals and one tri with in their division. There will be a Conference Tournament (all teams w/ thee seperate scoreboards-- much like MIT) at the end of the season 2/2/2008. 50% Dual meet and 50% Tournament finish to determine division champions.
Valley Division: Elyria, Solon, Strongsville, Mayfield, Garfield Heights, and North Royalton
River Division: Lakewood, Parma Normandy, Parma Senior, Parma Valley Forge, Brunswick, and Medina.
Lake Division: South Euclid-Lyndhurst Brush, Cuyahoga Falls, Twinsburg, Macedonia Nordonia, Hudson, and Stow "
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
My brief comment:
Notice the strength of the Valley Division as they cross Elyria all the way over from Lorain County to do battle with traditional powers Solon, Mayfield and Garfield Hts. Garfield and Mayfield have dropped a bit since 2004 when Garfield Hts. crowned two state champs (Effner and Matthews) and a runner-up (Dobies) and Mayfield's Mike Ward ended the Wildcats long state champ drought at the same time. I'm looking for at least Mayfield to rebound and maybe Garfield will also.
Really looking forward to attending some of the duals and the conference championship which will be a can't miss event.
Be nice to see this league succeed in gaining some student and general fan interest.
