    Default NJ - Andrew Campolattano - 189

Andrew Campolattano is the buzz of the New Jersey wrestling world these days. He's only a soph and just nailed down his 2nd state title at 189. This one was over the 2007 189 champ Mac Mancuso. Mancuso missed the tournament in 2008 due to an injury.

Campolattano is like 90-0 for his first two years is going to stomp on Mike Grey's all time win record by the time he's finished. He took home the Most Outstanding Wrestler of 2009 award this year.

Here's video of his state bouts.

Here's the remainder of the state final bouts from New Jersey. 171 is 2Xer Brendan Ard, son of former NY Giant guard Billy Ard. He's headed to Wisconsin.

Amazing record given the state, his age and the higher weight class. What did he wrestle his freshman year? Surprised I haven't heard more about him - know his name but does he have great post-NJ credentials? I heard the kid from Ohio's (Phillips) name way more...

Camp was at 189lb last year as well. And its normal that you hear about Phillips way more, thats because he is from Ohio and wrestles for Monroeville(same school as L.Stieber). If Campolattano was at Blair you would hear about him, he really is legit.

I will be interested to see if Phillips and Camp are at the same weight sometime and end up wrestling. That would be quite the match.

As for Phillips, Monroeville isn't really a powerhouse. They had actually never had a state champ until Logan Stieber won his freshman year. Now, out of no where, they have 4 guys who will probably all win 4 state titles. After they graduate, I don't think there is anyone spectacular in the near future. I think Phillips gets talked about so much because he had incredible quality wins over Roddy, Peltier, and Thomouseitt at last year's Ironman and because has completely DESTROYED everyone in Fargo (to the tune of teching everyone except maybe one person).

I watched a few of his matches on Flo, and the guy is pretty impressive, especially for a sophomore. If he can learn to finish his single a little better, and get into good shape, I can't even imagine how good he'd be

Cool link, he's on track to be #1 in my book. Grey's first title was at 103 and he was a year older than an average freshman.

16, yup he's norm for a soph, an early maturer for sure. Hopefully he won't grow up to be a 'tweener. '97 should be a sweet weight class for him.
