Its my sophomore year at 140. I was looking to accomplish something today but man, I choked. I got pinned in both my matches within the 2nd periods. I know conditioning wasn't an issue, because I always go hard in practice with our state qualifier and finish right behind him after our mile or 2 mile runs. Plenty of sleep, good dinner. Good breakfast. I don't have great strength or technique but my conditioning is great. Does technique beat out strength/conditioning any day?my junior season started a few hours ago so I have that to look forward to. But man did I choke.

i would say that technique and speed are what u need to improve on if anything u need to finish a double and sprawling out and peeling hands

    Technique > Speed > Conditioning > Strength

That's how I'm taught; it got me to a 18-15 season in the 285 division as a 225lber.

It wasn't enough to stop me from getting concussed of a slam, but still.

    Yes technique ALWAYS wins
    1. I am a 40 year old coach, way out of shape but can still beat some of our best wrestlers because with good tech I can rest while they work their butts off then I strike hard when they make a mistake or get out of position.
    2. I see it all the time. Kids come out of the weight room with big strength witch rarely comes with good conditioning. But even if they have cnditioning too, they still strugle and usualy quit.

if you have great technique, more technique then your opponent, then no matter what happens, you will always, every single time, beat him out.if you have a lot of streength, sure they may help you for craossfaces and the such, but if you have great technique you will never get in a situation where your strong opponent will crossface you

Technique beats anything, but if ur not conditioned then you might as well hang it up

Technique always wins, BUT once you get to the third if a guy has no gas or strength he can lose that technique advantage

The technique advantage will diminish if you don't have the conditioning that can keep up with it.

Not to say technique isnt important but if you look at the Iowa guys they dont do tons of moves, they do the basics and they do them damn good along with superior strength and conditioning. I can do move after move after move and do them well, but in the big time matches I go in Iowa mode...stick with the basics, beat guys up physically, push them the whole match, use my strength which comes from leverage and I can guarentee if you perfect 2-3 basic moves in all 3 positions, have good strength, beat up your opponent ie be mean, attack them the whole match you will beat a guy that relies on tons of technique and conditioning but not strength and meaness. And the Iowa way has worked for me, I've pinned an Alabama state placer in the 1st pd., beat a Va. state place that is currently ranked number 3.
