Possible matchup against the state champion at 140 this saturday at districts. Any advice? I wrestle everyday in practice with our state qualifier but this guy is a state champion for a reason.

Everyone can be beaten. Just go out there, and wrestle YOUR match. Does he like to tie up and you don't? Shuck him off. Does he prefer to shoot? Tie up with him instead. Break his rhythm and make him wrestle your match.

I was matched up against the number 7 guy at a recent tourney, and I managed to put him on his back twice in the first thirty seconds before he managed to get me under him and smothered me.

But I still was winning; and some unranked guy in the region managed to beat the number one in the state at that same tourney.

Don't worry, just go out, wrestle your match, and remember to have fun.

Wrestle hard, have fun...if that doesn't work, kick him in the balls.

Don't let yourself get intimidated. Go out there with a gameplan and stick to it. If you are a penetrator who is quick then don't tie up. One thing that good wrestlers often do is to make other people do what they want. I have a wrestler that should be a state caliber wrestler but whenever he goes up against a ranked, or returning state placer he psyches himself out and does exactly what his opponent wants him to do.

Remember that to win a state title you're probably going to have to wrestle this guy eventually. Why not get it out of the way early.

That state title was last year. This is a new season and no one has earned that title yet, so go out like the others have said, and wrestle your match. Most of these guys aren't used to someone coming out and attacking them. Work your moves and treat it like you would any other match against a tough guy.
He's not superman, he's a high school kid, just like you.

Just don't concede the match until that final whistle blows after 6 minutes. Wrestle smart and wrestle hard and the rest will take care of itself.

    Good luck!
