Hey everyone. I just found this site and have been reading it all morning. I graduated from Owatonna High School in MN in 04. I got started late and didn't wrestle a whole lot but i am a huge fan of them. I know in 04 they were ranked as high as 11th in the nation and in 05 they were ranked as high as 6th in the nation when they were 60-1 and won the state title. I know the past couple of years they have fallen off a bit and i see they dropped out of The Clash for this year. I was just wondering if anyone follows them and what they think the status of the team is and why they dropped out of The Clash. Also What is your opinion of their coach Scot Davis. I know he now holds the national record for high school wrestling wins. Thanks for any responses, Kevin |

Kevin, Thanks for joining. Owatonna's schedule is available here: http://www.owatonnawrestling.com/schedules.html Scot Davis, from what I've seen, is a good guy and a good coach. (might fluff his schedule with 50+ duals )Funny story about Owatonna actually: When I was in 8th grade (1998) they won the team portion of the state tournament. The following year, one of the coaches from Owatonna (I cannot remember if it was Davis himself or any assistant) took a picture of their whole team next to Jackson's house (Jim Jackson is the head coach at Apple Valley, and he lived next to one of the coaches if memory serves me) and they sent the post card to him with a note on it saying "We're watching you.." Unfortunately for Owatonna, we went on to win the state title again the next year and sent a card back "While you were watching, we were working"

Yea he did have a lot of duel matches but i believe thats a big part in Owatonna's success because i believe it was 04 we had 7 7th and 8th graders with 20 plus matches. He didn't throw out full blown varisty that often but when they did they wernt too bad. Owatonna beat Apple Valley 4 straight times inbetween 05-06. I know Apple Valley coaches said they couldnt remember a time a team had beat them that many times in a row. But since then Apple Valley has gone about its winning ways and Owatonna has fallen off. I think they will be tough this year, better than last year but i kinda think they are pulling out of the clash so they dont have those loses. I could be wrong tho. The big question is when i get married will i be an Owatonna fan or Apple Valley fan because my fiance went to Apple Valley. Also a final note, do you know the current national rankings for high school teams? I have seen the singles but not the teams. I would imagion AV is in the top 10? Kevin |

Tstuff didn't go back to 94 but I did find this on google... It didn't take long for this year's Minnesota high school wrestling tournament to develop into one of the most exciting in recent memory. From Thursday's team quarterfinals to Saturday night's final individual championship, dramatically close and hard-fought matches were the rule. Apple Valley won its fifth Class AA team championship after surviving a major scare from Cambridge in the quarterfinals. Thats all I could get before I had to subscribe. I think people think Hastings because they beat Valley in the semi's in 98 but lost to O-town in the championship |
