Can you guys give me as much advice as possible about leg riding? I'm not so great at top position and I want to make that up with good leg riding. A link to videos that teach leg riding would be beyond helpful too! I searched for some but couldn't find any. |

Just riding of any kind never scores points in high school (you can get a point for riding time in college), and in fact is stalling if you are not trying to turn your opponent to his back. A cross body ride (leg ride), however, is a good way to control your opponent, and there are many ways to turn him to his back from it.

From my experience, the key to legs is developing the right feel and balance, which takes practice. Just keep practicing and practicing. Don't try it in a match until your ready. Also, be sure to punish your opponent's head (legally of course) with power halves and crossfaces if he gets to a sit out position. Be like a human backpack. Stay tight and don't let your side hips touch the mat. Eventually, you'll have to loosen up and come out to the side a bit to turn him with the power half. At this point you can even switch to leg scissors. This shows a good strong power half, keeping the head on the mat. Also, notice the right hip is not on the mat. ![]() Leg scissors. The most pain inflicting legal move in wrestling. I'm sure a pin occurred shortly after this pic was snapped.

Besides, it's illegal to just squeeze the crap out of him with a scissors.

I'm sure we could argue semantics all day. Although, I think we agree that staying tight at the hips is the essential. (You really wouldn't want to put in a guillotine would you? I thought we were friends?)

A Saturday Night Ride can rate right up there - except the pin usually comes too quickly to allow inflicting TRUE pain. . From my experience with wrestlers starting to use legs, G&P's most important comment was don't use it in a match until you are really good at it in practice. We lose a lot of matches, usually by pin, to guys screwing up while trying to leg-ride.

![]() This loss makes me want to stay away from leg rides. I just need to practice it more before I do it in a match.Oh well I got a meet tomorrow. I'll just have to learn from my mistakes and do better next time. Last edited by Wrestling_Prodigy; 12-21-2008 at 06:35 PM. | |
