Parkland senior Mike Ottinger upset the nation?s top-ranked high school wrestler at 152 pounds, launching Team Pennsylvania to victory Sunday at the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic.

Ottinger scored a 6-4 decision over five-time Minnesota state champ Destin McCauley (No. 1 @ 152) in the opening bout of Sunday?s 37th annual all-star match at the University of Pittsburgh. Team Pennsylvania, composed of senior wrestlers from around the state, went on to defeat Team USA 27-18. Team USA consisted of 13 wrestlers from eight states, 10 of whom were ranked No. 1 in their weight classes nationally by Intermat.

Tamaqua?s Garth Lakitsky added a victory at 215 pounds, where opponent Andrew Campolattano of New Jersey took an injury default. And in a bout between Intermat?s top two wrestlers at 130 pounds, Nazareth?s Zach Horan fell 8-3 to Jesse Thielke of Wisconsin.

In the opening bout of the evening, Ottinger scored his second consecutive upset. Two weeks ago, the unranked Ottinger defeated Pittsburgh Central Catholic?s Jason Luster (No. 8 @ 160) 2-1 for the PIAA 3A title at 160 pounds.
