Default Questions about how High School Tournaments are run vs Open Tournaments

I have to first say I am fairly "new" to this whole High School Wrestling thing. At the same time I want to add I am not and over protective mom but I am a mom who is eager to learn and understand this sport. On that note I have so many questions regarding how different tournaments are run. I do not want to "bash" a tournament or how it was run with out completely understanding the differences of each so if anyone would be willing to give me a tutorial on this topic I would forever be in your debt.

there is a lot more to tournaments. maybe you should start with little questions instead of "meaning of life" questions. I am a high school wrestling coach and a USA wrestling coach. High School tournaments have 3 primary formats: Invitational, Open, and Dual. I think by "open" tournament you mean club wrestling (i may be wrong in my understanding), those are typically open format or round robin depending on how many wrestlers in a particular weight class. since I deal so much with High School, i'll give you a run down on those.

Invitational: teams either receive a closed invitation or open as a first come first serve invitation. each team is only allowed 1 wrestler per weight class. these are either round robin or bracket if it is individual can also be ran as a dual tournament.

Open: host school sends out open flyer. teams are usually limited to 3 wrestlers per weight class but depending on how many wrestlers are in a weight class, the host school will typically allow more than 3 per weight class. these are only as bracket or round robin.

Dual: these are team vs team, usually ran as bracket but I have been to a few that are ran as round robin or even as pools like the world cup than go into a bracket.

now this is just a general idea as I have been part of tournaments that do a combination.
