Destin McCauley (No. 1 @ 152) bid adieu Saturday night to the Minnesota high school wrestling world the same way he said hello six years ago: with a shy, toothy grin.

McCauley?s six-year high school career flew by in a whirlwind, and the impact of his dominance will be felt for years to come. Quite simply, no one in Minnesota prep wrestling history accomplished more than McCauley.

?It?s time,? the Apple Valley senior said during the state wrestling tournament at the Xcel Energy Center. ?I?m ready to move on to my next set of goals and challenges.?

Before doing so, he capped a recordsetting career with a pin over Rosemount?s Adam Jackson in 59 seconds in the Class AAA 152-pound championship match. It gave McCauley his fifth individual state championship, a feat shared by only three others.

McCauley finished his career with a Minnesota-best 286-7 record with 197 pins, another state record. During his prep career, he won a combined 11 state championships (five individual, six team), another feat no one can match.

During that span, he also won two national freestyle championships, a Pan-American championship and was the No. 1 college recruit in the country.
