Dual Team State Tournament

When: February 11th & 12th

Where:

Routine has taken on a new meaning over the last week for athletes and coaches preparing for the dual state wrestling tournament.

Instead of dealing with the normal daily schedule of school classes followed by practice or competition afterward, days off from school and action have been commonplace.

?Being out of school for almost two weeks seems normal now,? said Claremore coach H.M. Chapman as he prepared to pick up a few wrestlers Thursday afternoon for a practice with the rest of their Zebra teammates.

?But I know our kids are ready to wrestle a live match.? Live matches hopefully will take place Friday night for Claremore and the other 31 teams who qualified for dual state.

As of late Thursday afternoon, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association was still planning to keep the dual state tournament schedule intact.

First-round matches are set for 6 and 8 p.m. Friday at Skiatook in Classes 5A and 6A and at Cushing for 3A and 4A.* Semifinal and championship matches are set for Saturday at both Skiatook and Cushing.

The OSSAA, though, will determine Friday if a schedule adjustment will have to be made if a participating team is unable to travel that day. OSSAA assistant Mike Clark said most schools are going to make their decision based on road conditions at the time of departure.

All of the participating dual state teams have been off from competition between 10-14 days due to the historic winter storm.

At this time, we still do not have any changes in the Dual State Wrestling Tournament. Changes will not be made until Friday or once we see that a team will be unable to travel. Most schools are going to make their decision, based on road conditions at the time of departure.
