It?s the goal of every high school athlete to win a state title.

Winning multiple state championships in the same sport for an individual could be considered a great career. Winning three or even four crowns ? to most ? is unrealistic.

Washington Community High School wrestler Dylan Reel is not like most athletes. The junior grappler already has two Illinois High School Association state wrestling championships on his resume. He also has three Mid-Illini Conference titles under his belt and is still hungry to accomplish more.

?The goal is four state championships,? Reel said without hesitation. ?It would mean a lot. No one in central Illinois has ever done it and it would be a great honor.?

In fact, only 11 wrestlers have ever captured four IHSA state championships.

Before Reel can become the 12th wrestler added to this pristine list, he first must become just the 20th member of the three-peat club. According to Illinois Matmen, Reel is the top ranked wrestler at 160 pounds in Class 2A with his 37-1 season record to date.

Reel, who enters the post-season with a career record of 124-3, said he has received interest from Division 1 schools Boise State, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Illinois.* The journey for a third consecutive IHSA state title for Reel gets underway Saturday at the Peoria Notre Dame Class 2A Regional.
