When I get hungry while cutting weight (How much are you cutting and in how long of a time period?), I stick to foods that are very light. Rice cakes are good, as are bananas and apples. Nutri-Grain is good as well.

Other than that, I found that from when I leave practice at a little after 6, when I weigh in the next morning I lose about 1.5-2 pounds (without eating), but I usually eat a banana and maybe a nutri-grain.

I used to eat whatever and just sweat it off, but I got sick of that, so now I just skip most of dinner the night before, check my weight in the morning before school, and then weigh myself with whatever I'd like to eat/drink for lunch.

if you're talking night before weigh-ins, that's not a bad plan. If you get to bed sitting at 1.5-2.5 over you should wake up somewhere between 0-1.5 over, depending upon how good the Good Lord is to you.

if you're near a gym (24-hour fitness, Ballys, YMCA, etc) I'd suggest getting a meal in (pasta) and getting another workout in at night to lose that weight before bed.

Not only does the additional workout help in weight management, but it will boost your endurance (assuming you're on an elliptical or other running machine), but it will also keep you occupied when you'd otherwise be suffering waiting until you got tired enough to fall asleep. Bring a friend to suffer with- you will push each other longer and will end up with a life-long friend you can trust when the misery is over.

There is a couple rules to follow. You need to know how much weight to cut and how long? Weight management is your responsibility not the coaches. Proper weight management all the time will keep you well hydrated and energized. The constant yo-yo of going up and down is detrimental to your energy, focus, etc. Keeping yourself withing 1-3lbs of your goal weight/wrestling weight is ideal.
Rule #1 minimize the amount of food that contains gluten (wheat gluten is a vegetable protein). Gluten has the uncanny ability to make your body store and hold onto water. I used to tell my wrestlers to try to limit or avoid breads, wheat cereals and bagels. These are very high in gluten along with a couple of foods. Instead for carbs choose potatoes, rice, sweet potatoes, rice cakes, oatmeal.
Rule # 2 don't stop drinking water. don't overload either but certainly don't be foolish about not drinking it. Water is NOT gatorade, soda, powerade, juice. Water is only = to water. No calories, rehydrates like no other liquid. Water is your friend.
Rule # 3 No fast food of any kind. Fast food in ALL of its forms is FULL OF SODIUM. Too much sodium/salt will make your body hold onto water and the cells to swell thus increasing your weight. Be smart and prudent about your choices.
Rule # 4 Don't neglect lean protein choices- egg whites, protein powder (excellent choice) skinless chicken, ground turkey (15% or less of fat). Only protein will help you repair and rebuild muscle tissue after hard workouts. 20-40g of protein per meal will help you.

I always ate small chocolate bars and little pieces of steak Not that I reccomend the practice, but I always figured if I can only eat small amounts it may be small amounts of something tasty

i am currently at 152 and i want to cut down to at least 145, long term goal is 140. ive been eating a slice of bread with peanut better and cup of cheerios with fat free milk. for lunch i eat a chicken caesar salad loaded with hot sauce and a side of lowfat milk. After practice i eat a green apple and then for dinner i eat steamed broccoli with shrimp or fish. and sometimes i not even eat that and just drink a protein shake which has 205 calories adn 50 grams of protein.

when i cut weight my diet consisted of weight control oatmeal for breakfast and an energy drink, water an apple and orange for lunch and for dinner water and a big grilled chicken breast sometimes on bread depending on how close on weight i was. Also tuna without mayo is perfect and you can eat those jumbo sized pickles they have no calories but dont eat alot of them they have salt and can retain water in you . but for most of the week they should be alright, just dont go hog wild on them the night before
