Set up your shots better. Work snap downs to a shot or underhooks to pop & shots.
If you get stuck on a shot where your head is stuck inbetween your opponents legs, try working a Polish finish. Ask your coach about that.
I feel your pain, I'm solid on the mat, but on my feet I take too long setting up mediocre shots.
Aim your shot so you finish two feet behind your opponent (pretend you're shooting on a guy who is standing behind him). Shoot through him and keep driving into him until you finish the move or go out of bounds.
Good advice from Snowsurf. I think the Polish finish he's talking about is what we call a Bulgarian.

I'm going to try your advice Spider
Spider, the Polish I'm referring to is where you are deep in on a shot but getting your head beat, so you pop your hips underneath you and lift your opponent over your head, then turn.
Kind of hard to explain, but is that your Bulgarian?
On the Brands instructional video, if you are stuck with nothing, he has you try and drive up and in a circle using your forearm to drive him to regain the neutral position without letting your opponent do anything.
If you have one leg, he has you hold on with your inside arm and post the other hand under yourself as you try and slide your legs deeper so your back is strait and you are in between your opponents legs - finish with the Polish/Bulgarian description above.
Our youth coach does another that is effective. If you can lock your hands on one leg (left in this example - opponents right leg), he has them drop their left elbow and get on their toes to elevate their butt (so opponent can't spin behind). They circle and try to hook the leg they are holding on to and after hooking it, if they can't windmill out of his wizzer, they try to put their right hand on his far knee as they grab his far ankle with their left hand (much like a breakdown)

I had the same problem when I wrestled. I learned to use shots where the possiblity of getting "stuck" was minimal... blast doubles, snatch single legs, knee picks, etc. Just learn to set them up properly and they'll all work well.
