Sounds like you need to learn hand fighting, getting inside ties, and moving your opponent. Two on ones, arm drags, etc...are very effective in setting up a shot. You should always have a good penetration step, where your foot or your knee ends up behind your opponent's heels. If you get stuck underneath, on a double leg, get the single and pop the head to side and get that leg out there to drive off of. Watch for the cross face.

We teach our wrestlers to "dump" to a Pancake if they lose the leg and can't get their heads out to the side. Grab your opponents right arm with your left arm. Pop your right leg out and with one motion pull down on the arm that you have ahold of, drive your right arm under his armpit and drive off your right leg. This is a pancake.
