Thread: Tips for afternoon weigh ins

Default Tips for afternoon weigh ins

We have not had this problem in the past. My son has always been much lower than the weight limit for his weight class. This year he is going at 112 and he weighs right around 112 when he wakes up in the morning. I think he was 111 this morning. He has been able to get to 112 by improving his diet. He has not skipped any meals, nor has he done anything crazy.

Tomorrow he has a dual meet (preseason) in the afternoon. Does anyone have any tips on what he can do to make sure he can make weight in the afternoon? I don't want him playing games with hydration, nor do I want him to starve himself all day (he had to function in school). What do other wrestlers do when they are close to their weight limit and have an afternoon weigh in?

Take a poop and a piss, as silly as it sounds, it can make or break whether you make the weight class or not in a tight situation.

Take hot showers, you don't notice it, but your body sweats while doing so.

Just a couple things off the top of my mind, hope it helps in some way.

lol Yeah. I weighed in 4 pounds heavier at my hydration test because I ate in the morning and drank a lot of water 10 or 15 minutes before the test.

though it probably will never matter. cold showers actually make you lose more weight. your body burns calories trying to get warm.

I know that eating a decent size meal can change things by up to a couple pounds but I didn't realize that a lot of water would make that much of a difference. I'll have to keep that in mind although I usually don't run that close to my limit.

water can make or break a wrestler, especially if he is not hydrated he can gain a lot of weight off a little drink at the water fountain.
