    RANKINGS

Too many people put too much stock in them.

It's especially bothersome when college coaches rely on them as a recruiting tool.

Have you ever asked yourself why? At our school we had a dual meet with ONE other team. It was scheduled for 4. The other team was there. We were there. The refs were there. Why did the meet start an hour late? Nobody knows.....It pissed me off though......

A few months ago at this forum, we had a thread about the use of the word "pinfall." Here's what I wrote at the time, and it seems to fit here just fine:

As for the "pin-fall" thing -- we have a respected poster here who is on a quest to eliminate the word from amateur wrestling reporting. In addition to being used in pro rasslin' commentary (esp by the late Gordon Solie), it was used in old-time newspapers and student yearbooks to describe the act of putting your opponent's shoulders to the mat in amateur wrestling.

So, what is so bad about the word? I never knew there was anything bad with it or there was any negativity toward the word. I thought it was just a regular old term for getting a pin.

    Pinfall is a redundant expressionword.
Atrophy: what you get when you win atournament.

    Pet peeves:
5th/6th place matches, especially in early season tournaments.

Wrestlers/coaches who avoid entertaining matchups to preserve rankings, undefeated streaks, etc

Maybe this is okay if it is a strategy to win the dual meet, but not to preserve individual rankings or win streaks as you said.

Yea, isn't that what Scott Winston did a lot?
