No way. Phillips dominated the best 171s in the country last year (as in #1, #2, and another top 15 at the time) in his first high school tournament. He didn't even give up a takedown and beat the #1 kid (Brian Roddy) in the finals 7-3.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Phillips is incredible. When you are physically mature enough as a Freshman to come in and dominate the field at 171 you're making a statement. While 125-140 is probably the toughest Ironman has seen in a while, Phillips is an OW contender every year he is in the event from here on out.

Shaun and RD have obviously never seen Phillips wrestle.

He was the OW last year, so that is definitely true. David Taylor's if Taylor wins his 4th title this weekend, he will in all likelihood win the OW--after all, he would be the first 4 timer. But if not for that, Phillips would be in prime position to win 4 OWs. Obviously that is quite a task and a subjective award, but...

Were Taylor and Phillips co-OW's last year?

Brian Roddy wasn't that good to begin with. You guys are all underestimating Lofthouse. 160 was a much better weight top to bottom then 171 was last year. Just wait and see.

Shaun you are speaking out of ignorance. Brian Roddy was #2 in the nation. He ended up winning the Ohio State Division I title in 2008. Two matches before this match, Phillips beat the #3 wrestler in the nation, Corey Peltier, from Blair.

Hard to believe Phillips took Roddy down with a freaking Fireman's...that almost NEVER works at this level.
Jacob Schlottke---Gone too soon, and the world is a little less bright because of it. RIP, brother.

I have a great respect for Phillips and have watched him on numerous occasions J/O but Jordan is super motivator and when Mannier made the jump to 71 Jordan will remind Man of Phillips everyday and I believe that will work in his favor.
    Obviously cckfce
