    Electric!! Illegal Throws

I am sure this has been asked before but I can't figure out where the search function is. My question is, are back suplexes specifically forbidden in Folkstyle? I have asked my coaches in the past, and got two different answers. One told me that they were illegal, the other said they were perfectly legal. I decided to do some research.

I know there is a "slam rule" but the slam rule is very general and doesn't mention any specific throws.
When a wrestler lifts another off the mat, it is the lifting wrestler's responsibility to ensure the other's safe return to the mat.
Further more, I have to date not found an enumerated list of illegal throws. Based on this information, if I can perform the suplex throw (or any throw for that matter) in such a way as to reduce the impact to a tolerable level, wouldn't the technique technically be legal?

Is there something I am missing?

No it isn't illegal. As long as you fall down with him (have control of him as you perform the move all the way till the end) as you suplex him then its fine. Just make sure you don't suplex him on his head.

Although legal most rfe's will call a slam or an illegal throw -whether from ignorance or they just don't want to see a kid get hurt . I had a kid lose first round of regionals for using a perfect bodylock only have the ref call a slam and the other kid took the 'Wus' way to victory by lying there . Wrestled fine next round though .
My kid was 23-0 and had a good chance at State only to have some fat jerk ref take it away from him.

Wow, never heard of that happen here in New Jersey. That must suck.

I guess my next question would have to be, why do so many people seem so convinced that there is a rule specifically barring the use of Suplex throws if there isn't?

Rumors. People listen and agree with the majority pretty easily. If I heard the rumor I would believe it because it sounds logical because suplex throws may be dangerous.

Rule of thumb: Most of what random people say these days is completely inaccurate or false.

Assuming that you could hit the throw and that the ref didn't call it a slam, what would be accomplished? I find it difficult to believe that you can control a wrestler on his shoulders long enough, while in a back arch, to get back points or a pin. In fact, I can easily see someone turning out of it and catching you on your back.

Well, one thing I could accomplish if I got lucky is to get the fall. Also, if someone was recording the match, it would be a great clip to post on my YouTube channel.

In all seriousness, you are right. Its not a technique that one should count on using (I assume that's what you were implying), and I don't walk onto a wrestling mat thinking, "Yeah, I am going to suplex this kid." The only reason I brought it up was curiosity. If you were being given conflicting information by two equally qualified experts (my two coaches) on something that should be pretty straight forward (is this legal or not) wouldn't you be curious to find out what the answer is.
