Have you had a skin fold test, which will tell you how much weight you can safely lose? If you have a high percentage of body fat, 103 may be the weight for you. If not, the loss will be unhealthy and counterproductive. If you wrestle at your healthy weight, you may still see some varsity competition (injury to the starter, bumping him up to stack the lineup). Consider this the preparatory year for next year's championship. Wrestle as much as you can and learn as much as you can.

When you think about wrestling JV for a year look at this article (link) about Perrelli from Cornell. Sure everyone wants to start 3 or 4 years but there is nothing wrong with being a JV guy behind someone who is #2 in the state.

What is the guy at 125 like? Is there any way to hit the weights really hard, gain some strength and beat him out of his spot?

Yeah I have had one and I'm pretty sure I have a high body fat percentage.
Is there a particular diet you can give me to cut ?

I think the fact that a half dozen people have said its a bad idea (all of whom have cut before) should tell you something. We're not trying to ruin your season by telling you to wrestle up. Instead of focusing your entire year on cutting weight LIFT, EAT HEALTHY, and IMPROVE. If you wrestle your butt off with the 112 and 119 all season and continue to improve there is no reason that in 3 months you won't be pushing one of them out of the line up.

When I moved to Apple Valley in 8th grade (you can wrestle varsity in Middle School in MN) the returning 103 pounder was a state placewinner and was able to tech/pin me at the beginning of the season. He had his way with me, made me cry, and could break me every match. By the end of the season I was able to beat him soundly enough that we didn't even wrestle off. It might not seem possible right now, but if you really bust your hump for the next 3 1/2 months you could reasonably win one of those spots or be big enough for 125.

Weighing 120 right now and wanting to go 103 - even if you're really fat - is not a good idea.

Listen to Schlottke, he won't blow his own horn, but he was a TERRIFIC H.S. wrestler. Even in Wisconsin we heard of him 'cause beat the hell out of Ben Askren in FS. He holds the state records(or at least did) for TDs in a career and a season.

Thank You everyone and especially Schlottke, for the help. I guess I'm not going to cut to 103 after all since everyone says it's a bad idea and I shouldve listened so I'm probably going to wrestle 119. Thannk You wrestlers.

Just don't look at it as a failure because it isn't. If you work your butt off at practice every day and spend 30 minutes to an hour extra every day training when the 112/119 are not you will catch them sooner or later.

Working hard to improve beats working hard to cut weight every time.

    Very mature decision, young man!
I enjoyed my Junior year wrestling JV, when I had to EAT to maintain weight.

I saw his post and was debating on what to do with it. He has posted this on other forums before.
