    Default Why do you wrestle?

I have never been able to describe it to any of my bewildered friends. I am sure it is not the violent/competitive nature of the sport that appeals to me. I guess I wrestle because the sport is so individual that if allows and even forces you to examine your performance and even yourself with absolute honesty. What about you guys?

I liked wrestling for a lot of reasons. If I had to narrow it down to one main part of wrestling though it would be the strategy that goes into the set ups. Wrestling is like physical chess and being able to manhandle someone because of a couple basic step ups and takedowns was always something I enjoyed.

The individuality of the sport definitely is nice. You don't have to rely on someone else thinking your better at a position to get noticed.. you just go out there and pound the guy to prove it.

The big thing about wrestling rather than other sports is it is you verse your opponet, one on one. And it isnt just a test of strenth or speed but also heart and yuor mentality. Proveing to yourself that you can take the pain and keep going. In my experiance other than mma there is nothing like it. When you win it is the absolute BEST feeling in the world, and even when you lose you want to jump in again to prove to yourself that you can do it.

I used to be able to describe wrestling in such a romantic fashion, however, nowadays I stick to this:

There's no better feeling then stepping on the mat and destroying your opponent.

Of course, my answer wasn't always so blunt, until I went through insane conditioning, of course. Dropped from 128 to 123 in 2 weeks, and ever since I've always enjoyed giving an opponent a nice beating.
