Default What weight class is best for me?

Im currently 121 walk around weight and im 5'8 1/2 im pretty lean dont have of a bigger build like most of the people that i train with. I need advice what weightclass would be best for me since my height is super high for the weight im at now. 119 weight class isnt an option for me because im coming in as a senior and theres only one spot on varsity and the guy whos at the 119 class right now has been wrestling for his whole life and basically eats drinks sleeps wrestling. Do i push to 112 would it hurt my body that much? or is it even possible or do i try to bulk up and gain some muscle to get to 125. Pre season just started. Thanks ahead for all the advice!

That is a very difficult question to answer with the information given. First of all if you can't go to 119 because there is a stud there then what is the competition like at 112, 125, and 130? Could you beat out one of those guys? What is it like in your league at those weights? Could you be competitive? Have you ever wrestled the guy at 119? Is there a chance that you can work hard this season and beat him out for the spot? Also what about wrestling JV at 119? In your league/state can two from one team go on to state or is just the varsity wrestler eligible?

To me it seems like 112 is a long way to go, however if you have the weight to lose, you are certainly starting soon enough to get it done.

Well the guy im partnered with who weighs around 128 right now will be my comp. in the 125 bracket , hes good but hes not as good as the 119 guy. And if i work my ass off i might be able to beat him. I cant wrestle JV because im a senior so if i dont have a spot i basically dont compete. I havent wrestled the guy at 119 yet but he basically dominates everyone in our school even the guys up to 145 so thats out of the question. I dont know exactly if my body will let me lose 9 lbs if my height is 5'8 is that unhealthy?? wouldnt that hurt me more than help me im asuming, but then again this is my first year i need you veterans help. Thanks and i think its varisty wrestler eligible.

How much exercising have you been doing? If not much you might find that with a little moderation in eating and daily exercise 112 is not too tough to get to. If you've been working out a lot i'd be surprised if you could make it. 5'8 1/2 is pretty tall for 112. If so it looks like 125 might be where it's at.

You could probably make 112 healthily in my opinion. Provided you start now and work very hard.

I think there are quite a few threads devoted to weight loss. Basically eating healthy(not so much less) you need at least 3 meals up to 5(though smaller ones) Make sure you have good fiber intake and don't eat anything that your body doesn't need. Exercise daily, burn those calories, but do things that will help you with wrestling. Don't just go out and run 3 miles a day, keep it varied. Wrestling honestly is great exercise that will help you lose weight. Just being active in general(every day) and eating right will go a long way.
