Thread: Ohio Adds Dual State Tournament

Default Ohio Adds Dual State Tournament

The Ohio High School Athletic Association approved the creation of a dual meet state tournament for wrestling programs to begin in March 2013 at its final board meeting of the school year Thursday.

The dual tournament will take place the week after the annual state tournament and was implemented after a recommendation from the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association.

Where did you read this? If there is a link I would love to read it. I've never heard of a thing, so I have lots of questions like do schools only compete against schools in their division. Where will it be held. How do you get tickets.....blah, blah, blah. Basically, the link should clear it up if you have it.

That didn't answer all my questions, but I'll bet they don't know the answers yet either. Thanks for the link. I will try to keep up on it, but if you find something out, could you either post it for everyone or PM me? I haven't missed an Ohio State Tourney since 1987 and I don't want to miss these either.

Eventhough the current dual championship set up is not sanctioned by the OHSAA, they nevertheless have printed the results in the state championship progams (that are sold at the state tourney). I haven't missed the division one championships that have been held in Wadsworth, but it would nice to see all three divisions in the same venue. Currently, in each of the three divisions, eight teams are extended invitations based on the prior year's underclassmen scoring at the four district tournaments (two from each district=8).

Each of the three divisions has 170 schools (approx), so the first decision to be made would be how many teams to include at the opening level. AND HOW TO PICK THEM.

There is precedence for excluding teams before the tournament starts (see football, where a computer program selects the 32 qualifiers in each of the six divisions). Too many schools won't be able to field even close to a full 14 wrestler line up anyway. Some interesting decisions to be made.

In Indiana they take the sectional champions in the regular tournament scoring and they advance to the team series. I wonder how Ohio will conduct their team series.
I will smash your face into a car windshield and then take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth, out to a nice seafood dinner and never call her again!

Tell me about it, this morning, I woke up and I shit a squirrel, but what I can't get is the damn thing is still alive. So now, I've got a shit covered squirrel running around my office and I don't know what to name it.

So, what are the sub-par wrestlers doing while the state individual tourney is unfolding?
Here in PA, that takes 3 to 4 weeks. Are all those kids expected to practice and stay in shape all that time as they wait for the team tourney to begin?

Personally, I don't care for team dual championships. IMO, recruiting and transferring spiked when the team tourney was introduced in PA.

I agree with Ground&Pound, and like the fact that the State duals in Pennsylvania are held prior to the individiual state tournament, just for the reasonable question he posed concerning the wrestlers who don't make the State tournament.

I'd still like to see a national duals. Each State's top two teams in each division square off. oooohhhh yeah!
