    Default Tap Out Rule?

What is the rule when someone taps out when they are on there back in a reverse half? I am from Louisiana and I had a kid on his back for 15 seconds then he tapped and the ref just started injury time. State is tomorrow, if it happens I want to be able to know the rule...my coach and I can not find anything in the rule book regarding tap outs.

    Thanks,

    Garrett

That's how I've always seen it happen.

I am a coach in the youth wrestling in Michigan and had this happen to one of my wrestlers today. Was asked to see the rule and the Head referee was unable to produce the actual rule. He did have this to say " That it is the discretion of each referee to make the decision if the wrestler is injured or faking to get a restart. My wrestler was in a pinning combo about 2 seconds from the pin. Wouldnt it be nice if you didnt like the start just tap give up 4 points and start over?

A tap-out is a request for an injury timeout, after which the match is restarted.

There is no Tap-out rule. I am a ref and I had this situation at a League meet last week. Kid was on his back and freaking out, started to tap and I said there is no tap out. after about 10 seconds I stopped the match and awarded a 4 point nearfall. The coach was at the table saying his kid was tapping out. I informed him that there is no tap out rule.

In the NFHS rule book on page 30 Rule 6 section 4 article 4 it states:
Any couch of the contestant or the contestant has the prerogative to default a match to the opponent at any time by informing the referee. It does not say anything about tapping out.

If the shoulders are close enough and someone starts to tap I will just call a pin.

THis is good info. I have seen it to many times a kid is about to get stuck perhaps by a lesser opponent and they start tapping. Just pin them up because they obviously want out of the match.

Didn't know you could give a four point near-fall. Is the extra point considered a penalty point?
