I would continue with your strength and conditioning program, eat a clean diet the best you can, and try to focus on your technique. Once you approach the season see what your weight is along with your body fat and find a healthy weight where you wont have to cut a lot of weight. You want your practices to focus on technique and getting better not on cutting weight or it will be a long miserable season.

yeah, cut down on the weights a little. Eat plenty of protein so that you will not lose any of the muscle that you've worked so hard to gain. Eat no fat and no sugars. Only simple carbohydrates that can be used when you workout. Do 2-3 light workouts a week and keep them below an hour to minimize the release of fat causing cortisol. Do NOT run everyday, maybe 4 times a week, and drink 6-8 ounces of water every 3 hours. I know how you feel man, I'm about to havta start cutting myself; 214 to 189 with 8% BFP

What?? Cut down on weights?? My advice to you is to keep weighlifting, specifically a strength program such as a 5x5 program. Summer is the time is gain muscle and strength, when preseason comes, switch to a Power/Endurance weight program, but for now I suggest lifting 3 times a day if you can and get some whey protein if you're not satisfied with your muscle milk. Muscle milk isn't that bad actually, maybe you're not lifting right. I suggest you take a look at http://www.defrancostraining.com/. Don't worry about your weight, worry about your technique. The way I see it, if you're lifting weights and gaining muscle and thats the reason why you're weighing more, thats even better. Offseason/summer is the time to learn technique and to gain strength, Preseason is when you get back in shape and lose some fat. If you want I can hook you up with the Super Strength DVD that DeFranco is selling (though is site also includes free workout template and whatnot, definately check it out) |

the man just said he has to lose 20 pounds to get back to his weight class. why would he want to keep taking protein and lifting weights 3 times a day? when i say cut down on the weights, i mean don't exhaust yourself because of your decreased diet. Many wrestlers when they want to start cutting, they stop lifting weights all together. This will make you become dramtically weaker, however you should still not continue to lift the way you were with your high carb/protein diet. Each muscle group should be worked NO more than twice a week, I'd say once. Offseason is indeed a great time to build strength and get ready for the season, but if you've already determined you need to cut a large amount of weight soon, don't weight until the season to do it and get yourself exhausted before every match, start now. However, if you want to make the decision to continue to lift weights and move up a weight class or two from what you were going to try to cut to, go ahead. But lifting weights 3 times a day is going to exhaust your body. |

Yup purplepride is right... If you dont wanna gain weight... then just dont eat as much . If you wanna gain weight you eat more then you spend energy... If you wanna loose weight its the opposite...You dont have to be huge to be strong. Doing the 5x5 by bill starr or something like starting strenght program by rippetoe is really good. If it were upto me... I would care about weight, I would just try to be as strong as possible, without being too fat, and then cut a bit of weight. Dont choose your weight now, choose it once youre a bit stronger and not so early. |
