Yes! In the regular time of the final, Saitiev had a 2:0 lead. In the ot, Isagajiev threw him to his back from the clinch; 3:2.

The TV showed all finals except for that one at 74. During one of the finals, the commenter said the TV could unfortunately not show the 74-kg final “for technical reasons”. I have a video (obviously made with a tv-camera) that contains the match in its regular time. The part of the video where the overtime is expected to be is damaged. It looks like it has been intentionally damaged.

I think somebody paid the media not to report about that match. Several online-newspapers published detailed reports about the finals (except 74!) and the 3rd place matches. They gave the results and described who scored how (with more or less detailed descriptions of the moves). Only one newspaper wrote (only one sentence!) about Saitiev's defeat. All other media didn't even mention that final as if it hadn't existed.

BTW today (6 !! weeks before the nationals) their federation eventually decided: the nationals will take place in Kazan.

Yes i heard this from Tigran yesterday. Can you possibly tell me more about Kazan? I never heard of this place before. Is it a good place to hold Nationals? Are there or have there been any good wrestlers from this place?

If you mean popularity of wrestling, no, it isn't the best place for freestyle nationals. It was the cheapest place to organize the competition. Even the Russian federation seems to have problems in times of financial crisis.

FS isn't popular in Tatarstan. They have good GR schools there but without any top wrestlers in the recent 20 years. In the past, several Tatars were members of the Soviet GR team and medaled at Olympics and worlds.
Shazam Safin was the first Soviet Olympic champ in wrestling, 1952.
In the 70s and early 80s: European and world champs/medalists like Mustafin and Fatkulin. The best one was Hisamutdinov (fila database: chisamutdinow) – 1972 Olympic champ and 2x world champ.
But all this is past glory.

What is popular in Tatarstan and in neighboring Bashkortostan (capital Ufa, on the map above – southeast from Kazan), is actually.... belt-wrestling. Kazan 2005 and Ufa 2007 hosted the belt-wrestling worlds.

Kazan 2005

Ufa 2007

Well the big halls were half empty. The reason might be: not the usual belt-wrestling, but a special style (something between belt-wrestling and wrestling in clinch) is the big passion of Tatars and Bashkirs.
Unlike in belt-wrestling, the wrestlers have the belts (actually a kind of towel) not around their waist, but in their hands (the one end of the towel is bound around the wrist) and each puts his towel around the opponent's waist. This way they clasp each other with the towels and the bout begins.
More than 50.000 persons practice this style in these 2 provinces. Some pics:

Well Quick I know I couldn't give you the information about Kazan you expected but I believe to have given you valuable tips about a new way of using your towel.

Less than the half of the greco matches are available. Go to:
http://www.fila-wrestling.com/webtv/...=972&Itemid=55
and select Style GR to see what is available. Perhaps you can (I cant) watch them ot this server. If you cant, take the Nr. of the particular match and replace xxx with it:
