Mamiashvili, President of Russian wrestling: $500K is not too much for Olympic Gold
Mamiashvili gave some comments on the Russian site regarding Kerimov's offer to give at least $500K to any Russian wrestler that brings home the Gold from 2008 Olympics.
He says the sum is not too big because these guys spent many, many years and health to represent their country at Olympics. This is their only chance to receive a reward large enough to feel financially secure for the rest of their lives, to provide for their femilies, to start a small business, and to help their relatives.
He comments that most wrestlers come from poor families that depend on these guys to bring the reward back to the family. Mamiashvili reminds that this kind of reward has its roots from the era of Soviet Union's dominance when Soviet wrestlers got taken cared of for winning Olympic Gold medals.
