I can't remember the guys name at the moment but he was the inventor of the Nautilus training equipment-He was of the view that champions are born -not made -then he made a truly contrevorsial comment by saying the only way to end the steroid debate would be to take a bunch of Mexicans and do a double blind study...Naturally the man was ostrasized for his comments but big pharmaceutcal companies have been doing NEARLY the same thing by paying poor people to partake in their studies-anyway-the debate will never cease over genetics /work ethic or as portrayed in the film ''Trading Places'' social Darwinism--

really? is it true that they generally do mature earlier and have more muscle development at an earlier age? I think maybe that it is so much more of a social/cultural phenomenon in that region and so it is much more competitive and a higher general level.

Is being very hairy a social and culutral phenomenon as well?

Sure it is. Let me give you an example. The German # 1 (Bichinashvili) and # 2 (Mark Buschle) at 84 kg are hairy. Unlike Bichinashvili, Buschle makes use of some methods of hair removal. So, being or not being hairy in present-day society is a matter of social/cultural values, attitudes and practices.

I must say that the discussion of body hair development seems just wrong.

I can not even begin to think of how this will be justified by BIG. I sure we will wax poetically about puberty and how the development of body hair is the early signs of manhood. It is almost like he is saying that hairy men make better wrestlers because at an early age they intimidate the other opponents?!?!? LOL tooooooo much

I am stopping now as I believe BIG needs to start visiting a bar to have someone to talk to, instead of posting he insane theories to be bantered about as if they have any real merit on this board.

Oh and just to chime in on the theory of genetics playing a part in athletic success.

No shite. Along with heart, work ethic, training, nutrition, drive, and financial support.

I still contend that the number driver for athletic success is drive.

Those who feel it is there only path to success will put in an effort that will push them past others. It often seems that certain races or areas have a genetic advantage but I believe most of the time it because they are from an oppressed area or race. I have a lot of examples of this but that is for another day.

They looked like men when everyone else looked like little kids of the same age.

This early maturity simply got them into better clubs, better coaching and better competition. By the time they were 18 few ethnic Russians could catch up to their experience.
    I agree with you.
