ahhhhhhh, in that case email me at dmaswary@hotmailcom or ask here if youd like any tips on sub fighting andadapting wrestling to subfighting. I dont want to give superb advice, get omoplata'd to death in a torunament and then have the guy who ripped my shoulder off ath the joint than me for the advice For sub fighting you might want to get up to 60 kilos. Their are a lt of world class grapplers at that weight and if you ever decide to give MMA a try the Japanese pay lighter weight fighters a HUGE bundle. As a matter of fact the most succesful Japanese fighter is a wrestler named Kid Yamammoto who is maybe 5'2 and 155. he is ferocious and dominating though. Ill be happy to help or recommmend the right teachers, DVDs etc.... or give personal tips Good luck, you wll do very well and good luck in the nationals. Let us know how you did. I look forward to your grappling as well. |

I think Kid is currently taking time off from fighting to train for the Olympics but I'm not sure. He is actually related to the female wrestler and former women's world champ from Japan, Seiko Yamamoto. I'm currently working on my bjj with a purple belt from Renzo's academy. He has some pretty sick technique and a world class guard, so I think I am in good hands The problem is trying to train in both bjj and wrestling at the same time, since there are so many situations where you need to train your body to react differently.Anyways, any tips are always welcome since I'm a newcomer and I'd like to soak up as much as possible. Speaking of omoplatas... I tried to roll out of one a few weeks ago but accidentally rolled the wrong way and nearly dislocated my shoulder But at least now I have learned from my mistake and always roll out the right way!

I know Renzo. Ive hung out with his sister Carla. OK, as a female best tip....well, I have tons. On your inside trip make sure to shuffle up to trap the hips and go right to guard passing Avoid opening your elbows inside the guard which is fine in wrestling but gives a good guard player room to play with your body position on the ground head up on the double leg, guillotines are valid and lots of wrestlers get great takedowns straight into a guillotine Some BJJ players will let a wrestler fly headfirst into a double leg and wait for the arm to rest ont he chest and fly right into the omplata, arm bar or a guillotine Omo Plata is tricky to get out of. The best way is to not put your arm into a position where someone will get it. If it does happen the immediate roll is great but it cant be delayed. If not extend the near legand roll inside the edtended legs of the opponent trappping you and grab the gi leg or the shins, he'll roll on top of you and you'll be in bad position, but not in submission danger. I could go on abot this all day, its my specialty subject - mixing wrestling with BJJ. Ahhhhh, when guard passing, use your pummeling to great effect on the ground, you will never get swept and you wuill pass the guard mostruously. Renzo Gracie is fantastic. I know many of the Gracies here. He is a very aggressive fighter which I like |
