Russian wrestling Federation is protesting Mussulbes' bid for Olympics

The position of Russian wrestling Federation is that David Mussulbes should not be allowed to compete in Beijing for Slovakia.

Their reasoning is that he has not been a citizen of Slovakia for 2 years. Also, he is still living and training in Russia and planning to train in Russia for Olympics.

Further, he always represented Russia and was the coach of Russian HWTs until 2007.

Russian wrestling Federation claims Slovakia is simply stealing a ready wrestler without putting a dime in his preparation while Mussulbes is planning to use Russian resources to try to compete for Slovakia.

They are appealing to the Olympic committee as we speak!

Wouldn't it be easier to just slip him some mercury?

I don't see the problem. There are so many other russian wrestlers competing for other countries already. A precednt has been set. If they are going to protest Mussulbes they should protest all of them. And the 2 year residence rule is rarely enforced. I have seen russian wrestlers represent different countries in consecutive years with nothing being said. Surely russia has a young wrestler somewhere that can defeat the aging Mussulbes. Or is the russian superiority I keep reading about in jeopardy?

In this case its different since Mussulbes knows all the Russian HWTs very well because he was their coach for 3 years.

i can see their point. it kinda sucks to pay for another countries potential medalist. america, however, does it all of the time.
