    Default What's up with Gatsalov?

He seems to have lost a lot (relatively speaking) in a hurry? Is he hurt? Political reasons? Family issues? He is still pretty young (at least by American standards) so his drop off seems odd.

There is too much competition in Russia and 1 million dollars is on the line for each weight class. The pressure is getting to him.

That and you have to realize Russia keeps producing wrestlers that end up competing for other countries which makes the competition even harder. Batirov is challenged by Dudaev as well. Kuramagomedov is getting much challenge. Ketoev looked tight a little bit as well in this tourney

A thing you got to remember is when you are on top of the world, people are scouting you, training around the clock to beat you, studying your every move, so each year its getting tougher for gatsalov.

Last year when Muradov beat Gogshelidze and won European championships he wrestled Gatsalov at the Russian nationals.

Gatsalov beat him in a close match but in the inteview he sounded frightened. He said the win at European championships gave Muradov hope that he can win it all and he became a different wrestler. It sounded like Gatsalov was very concerned.

I've seen a few matches of Gatsalov's online and he looked awful in that loss to the other Russian. gave up two 3-pt moves. My first thought was "he looks burnt out". No idea if that's true or not.

speaking of ketoev...was he tight or was he told not to use his underhooks as much this tournement? to me it seemed he didn't dig for them near as much as he usually does. he didn't seem as dominant as i'm used to seeing him.

I suspect he will have to change up his ties. His underhooks and the way he set them up was fairly predictable. Really good mind you, and so good it took awhile to figure them out, but I suspect they have.

Speaking of figuring people out Aldatov and his superduck type technique, and his lace finishes, were not as apparent either. People are scouted. The thing that surprised me about Gatsalov is he's been around for a long time. At several weights. With him it seems to be more than "just" being scouted. Burn out? Hurt? Or just a loss of confidence? I dunno..... that is why I asked.

Gatsalov says he was in the middle of his plan to get ready for Russian Nationals and didn't expect at all to compete this week until two weeks ago.
