There were many Asian Russians on the Soviet team back in the 70s & 80s, mostly in the lighter weights.

Sergei Karamtchakov, Roman Dmitriev, Vassili Gogolev, Sergey Zambalov. The most famous probably being Pavel Pinigen.

I actually saw him at the club like 2 years ago. He may have been looking at schools with his son.

Don't know what he is up to these days. I know he is married to an Olympic runner or something like that.
