Man I know you're not comparing Pinigen to Fadzaev. What a joke.

Actually he is comparing a 20 year old Pinigin to a 2 time Olympic champ Fadzaev.

This should not even require serious thought. Fadzaev is one of the best who ever lived. Gable couldn't hold his jock. Take away conditioning and Fadzaev owns Gable. The only way Gable could have had a chance was in a 9 minute match. These rules Fadzaev isn't even sniffing a loss. Sorry.

I agree, nine minute match with no tech falls Gable could/would eventually get him. Today's rules, Fadzaev by pwnage.

I think this goes back to what is holding Americans back; the matches are not 9 min long or 6 min without a break. Americans are still stuck on the Gable/Iowa style. Gable would not be able to beat Fadzaev with the current rules. The Gable/Iowa style is great for folkstyle because it is a game of control and conditioning not skill and technique. I think one interesting wrestler that combined the best of both styles was/is Kolat.

While we tend to think of Americans as conditioned brawlers and Russians as skilled technicians, I would put the condition of Fadzaev and Beloglazov up there with any American. And both of these wrestlers were brawlers. We just might miss it because we're so accustomed to our guys shoving each other after the whistle has blown.

I would have to loved to have seen a match between Terry Brands and Sergei Beloglazov.

I haven't seen much Gable, but Fadzaev seems like a beast.

Of course Fadzaev and Beloglazov were physical just as physical as Brands, in fact, I think more so, but they did not base their wrestling on that. It just made them that much tougher. Brands had a good sweep, positioning, and punishing defense but he beat guys physically and mentally not technically. My point was that Gable's style and the way he has influenced wrestling in the US holds Americans back in freestyle. And a Brands Beloglazov match would have been very interesting. I think that this years Russians at worlds were in impressive shape more so than in the past; they seemed to be able to turn it on when they were down in a period, which wasn't often.
