Default You have to love Cuban wrestling

An island of freedom that has fewer people than America has wrestlers is second in the world in freestyle wrestling. Yet we rarely hear USA wrestling invite the Cubans to OTC or express interest in having Americans go to training camps in Cuba. What a free country we live in. Some of the best wrestlers exist less than 100 miles from America and we act as though they don't exist.

I think their athleticism helps with there wrestling as well, like honestly have you seen Yoel Romero or Yandro Quintana wrestle? they have more strength and speed then anyone in their weight class. Oh almost forgot about garzon, i like watching him wrestle, he seems to beat people up when he wrestles like his bronze medal match against Batyrov at last years worlds or his semis against Otartushivli at this years worlds.

All of America enemies are top in wrestling... Cuba, Iran, Russia. America tries to beat on these countries economically and then the wrestlers get pay back on the American wrestler on the mat.

I don't think you can be that black and white. It says something about people as a Nation when it can't do something despite having all the resources and desire.

Economy is just one side of human life. A sport like wrestling is a reflection of healthy human instincts and I suspect a lack of wrestling success in Western Nations is a clear indication of the decay of Nature given human instincts.

I mean it has to strike hard anyone who realizes that the more Western a nation is the more it sucks in wrestling. Perhaps its a reflection of how capitalism tries to make everything "easier and more comfortable" physically speaking.

Big i think it is because in the nations where they do well, they can be a lot more strict with the children there.

In the UK, you cannot discipline a child in school, if you hit them for punishment it is child abuse, and you have to respect them be nice to them and ofcourse combat sports could be bullying and all this nonsense.

Also there is this notion of its trying your best that counts not winning. I don't think that exists in Russia, Iran and Cuba.

I heard in Cuba they have kids running up hills with other kids on their backs, that would be child abuse here. My coach who is from Iran sais his coach used to kick him when he was a kid when he did bad.

I also think it is no secret that although the west may be economically richer it is not necassarily socially richer, some people confuse the two.

I have to tell you kids in America think wrestling is so brutal and physically demanding that regular people are not supposed to try it. In reality back in the day regular people were expected to be good at wrestling.

I was at Penn State University for a year and a half and Penn State is one of the best wrestling schools in America. The coaches kept saying how the sport of wrestling is not for an average man and how it is so physically demanding.

They were so dumb at Penn State they did so much physical conditioning it was crazy. Nobody learned any technique there almost at all. Whatever you learned in high school and depending on how gifted you were physically is how much success you would have at Penn State.

In the end, wrestling was portrayed as something not for society but for the select few because of HOW HARD YOU HAVE TO TRAIN PHYSICALLY.

In Nations like Cuba, Russia, and Iran they teach that wrestling is for everyone while of course only the few will be able to achieve Olympic glory and stuff.

In any case, wrestling is not all physical. You have to be smart to win!

They do buddy carries at plenty of high schools here, too. Cuba doesn't hold a monopoly on hard work.

Big, I understand that politics and wrestling are not two separate things in your mind, but the simple fact is that there are a lot of people in the world who just don't care about wrestling, and never will, and that is their right. Blaming it on capitalism, or laziness, or Kerry McCoy and Kevin Jackson is futile because there is not always a reason. I don't care about soccer or cricket, two incredibly popular sports. That doesn't make me a bad person, I just choose not to care about the sports. Maybe there is someone on a cricket message board whining that damn Americans don't care about this sport because they are lazy capitalists, but it's hardly going to get me to care about the sport.

I think the Americans used to be the strongest, but these days they are not, so their physical strength which was their strength does not exist anymore.

I think it is cultural, in many western countries combat sports are looked down on (unless they have some spiritual crap with them) while sports like tennis are considered very high ranking and they try and prescribe it for everyone. Here they built a huge tennis complex in a shithole and no one uses it.
Middle class liberals can be a bit crazy.

Although saying that i think wrestling as a sport is growing here and even a huge Quango sponsors wrestling.

Bluestater is cricket very popular in America? I think cricket is a colonial sport and ex-British colonies like it a lot, although some don;t.
