Thread: Saitiev vs Askren?

Saitiev has definitely been scored on with a double since 2000. In fact at the 2003 Worlds the Sengalese wrestler scored his first point with a double. Aldatov doesn't really hit a traditional double a la Brandon Slay. It's an outside step duck type move, not a blast double.

I will really look forward to this match.

haha i forgot about senegal blasting through saitiev, but anyways i wouldnt really count that. Ur right tho, its a completely different double and thats why im curious on whether it will work on saitiev. I think it will, but with saitiev u never know.

suggestion / question -- it is obvious that b saitiev has lost a little bit of speed. even in the past, the times he's been scored on have occured because people are getting in on his legs. i do not recall people scoring on b. saitiev off upperbody moves. murtz, got in on him a few times with very low attacks.

now that he's not as quick as he once was, perhaps he'll benefit from more of an 'american' stance with bent legs and hands low and in. once he makes contact, and can slow his opponents down, then he can do his thing.

he's just too long and lanky (and not as fast as he once was) to wrestle so upright...... THOUGHTS? OPINIONS?

I know you are commenting on him getting scored on from people being in on his legs, but the younger Saitiev had a lot of success from defensive positions. He scored a lot of his points from defending leg attacks. I think his style is his style and he will be fine wrestling upright. He said himself after the Yarygin that he still hasn't adjusted to the new rules, and has started from scratch again to get better. I think the World Cup will be an awesome display of what he was talking about, and I guess we'll see then how his stand up style does against Aldatov

i found it very suprising that he could not counter murtazaliev whn he was in on his legs at russian nationals. Saitiev had murtazaliev in a prety compromizing position and he couldnt score where he would always score before. I figured that murtazaliev's positioning is just that good, but considering saitiev hasnt been doing that well and had very close matches in international competition lately hints that saitiev is not back to his old self. I do think that if he is able to fix whatever is holding him back he will beat murtazaliev and shoudlnt have trouble with anyone else in the world.

Do not forget that any other time Murtazaliev gets in on somebodys legs he finishes, i think it shows alot that saitiev can stall it out or even escape where many ppl including aldatov get scored on, and even in the yargin, murtazaliev doesn't finish the take down he just runs saitiev out of bounds, so props to saitiev and his outstanding leg defence.

he doesnt always finish, sometimes he just stalls but he is just amazing in on the legs, never gets countered (except whn he lost to stadnik in 2006). Thing with saitiev is that hes been hammering people since 1995 with his leg attack defense, so its still rather suprising that murtazaliev could just hold on and stall, especially seeing how flexible saitiev is. At yarygin, murtazaliev adjusted so well to saitiev defense, u could tell he'd been studying it. He kept moving and never once stopped, which made all the difference, cuz once saitiev stops u from moving chances are he will score.
