    Default No, wrestling is not even close to being the most popular sport in Russia!

    Russian sports journalists voted on the best Russian athletes and the best sports team in Russia for 2007.

    You would think with the performance Russians put together at Worlds this year a whole bunch of them would be voted among top 10 best Russian athletes and the team would be voted the strongest ahtletic team in Russia.

    Not even close actually. Only Murtazaliev was voted among 10 best Russian athletes and the strongest athletic team in Russia was voted Russian basketball team.

    That's because wrestling is really only popular in the Caucasus. I wouldn't even think the average person in Moscow would know who Saitiev is.

    I bet they all know who Dementieva or Sharapova are.

    I thought so! I'm usually pretty good on my meaningless trivia, and Dr. Naismith invented basketball at the YMCA in Springfield. I feel so much better now!
