Thread: Fastest pin. Was it FILA president Martinetti who suffered it?

Default Fastest pin. Was it FILA president Martinetti who suffered it?

A friend from Georgia (the sate in Caucasus) told me about an interesting fact he stumbled across when reading a book about sport in Georgia written by a Georgian sport journalist some 20 years ago. In the chapter dedicated to the 2x Olympic champ & 4x world champ Levan Tedishvili, Tediashvili is said to hold the world record for the fastest pin time of 7 or even 4 seconds. The author quotes Tediashvili saying that he actually had pinned his opponent within only 4 seconds but the referees had recorded 7 seconds on the sheet.

The guy pinned came from Switzerland and his family name was Martinetti. Unfortunately, his first name isn't mentioned in the book. Who of the 3 Martinetti brothers?

Was it Jimmy Martinetti? In the late 1960s – early 80s, he wrestled at 82 kg. In the same weight division, Tediashvili wrestled in the late 60s – early 70s.

In 1973 Tediashvili went up to 90 kg. In that time, also Etienne Martinetti wrestled at 90 kg. Was it him?

Or was it future FILA president Rafael Martinetti about whose wrestling career almost nothing is known?

Great Question. I have a feeling you're right.

Try to get Dart Shark to check the FILA database.
I wish I could kick Matt Dragon in the balls. In his Dragonballz.

I don't think its on the FILA database. And knowing Akzent he probably already checked it. I do find it interesting that not much is known about Rafael Martinetti's wrestling career. I tried to find out myself on occasions but came up empty handed for the most part.

There is a high school match where a kid was pinned in 4 seconds also and it was recorded as 4 seconds

BTW, the guy who told me about that pin would love to watch matches of Bruce Baumgartner vs. David Gobedishvili. They met several times at olympics and worlds in 1985-1992. Does anyone have any matches on video? Or do you know whether there are videos posted anywhere (there aren't any on youtube)?

I think I have most of them. I don't really like posting heavyweights but I guess I can make an exception.

I guess I can post their 1985 World Final. It was a great match in which Bruce ended up with a fall.

Here's one from the 1988 Olympics:

BTW I think the answer to the original question is "who gives a shit."
