Hey Kutz didn't do much worse than Zadick last year:

60 kg/132 lbs. – Alan Dudaev (Russia) dec. Mike Zadick, Solon, Iowa (Hawkeye WC), 2-0, 3-3, 6-0. Those 3 points Zadick got were a gift.

It was great meeting quick_single at the match - very nice guy. Here are some pictures I took:

    Pritzlaff

    Dantzler

    Ruiz

    Byers

The US team looked real good. That Graff kid really impressed me. It was only his inexperience that cost him the match. Kutz looked really rusty in what I believe was his first match in God knows how long. Dudaev really doesn't do much in general and pretty much looks like he's sleeping out there but Kutz wasn't moving or turning the corner on any of his shots. Dudaev has real heavy hips though. Jantzen was clearly stronger than Batirov and showed some real good technique with a real nice change of direction throw in the first period. He tired out though, probably due to weight loss. Pritzlaff looked real good. Some real good shots off of his opponent's two on one. Man Hrovat won a squeaker with a turn on the buzzer. From where I was, he turned him after the buzzer, but I wasn't complaining. The Russian should not have put himself into that position. Hrovat has some great hips but gets really sloppy and gets out of position often. He needs to keep his elbows closer to his body with his body lock techniques. Hahn looked good. Unfortunately I'm blanking on the match right now. Sorry folks. I believe he lost on the clinch in the third period. Mocco looked really good. He didn't score much (I know, what else is new) but really controlled the match and might I say I was impressed. At one point the Russian coach actually yelled out, "watch out for the footsweep!" The weight cutting has to kill him. The crowd started clearing out after Mocco's match to which my friend next to me said, "that must be Mocco's family," which I thought was pretty funny.

I can't stand Greco. That clinch is so ridiculous with all the false starts and caution/2 point calls. Man, Vering is the real deal. He comes out strong and has great positioning and technique. He got tossed and was pretty close to being stuck in the first period and the mat official actually called for it but received no confirmation. Dantzler looked great as well. Byers had a spectacular throw from the clinch in the first period and kept up the pace against a very good wrestler from France. Mango actually wrestled a guy who was shorter and stockier than himself. I thought that was funny too.

I met Spider which was neat. He took a picture of our encounter. It might be worth money some day. Spidey - I can autograph it next time I see you.

Hey QS -- thanks for the wrap-up. Was Julieta there taking photos? I hope so!

Hahn won the toss and chose to give his opponent the leg lock. He was taken down/forced out of bounds (I'm not sure which) and lost the tie breaker. I don't understand why he didn't choose to take the leg lock himself, it seems like a better position . . . but I'm no world class wrestler or coach.

    And I'm the handsome one.

Spider - Might you have a bigger, higher resolution copy of our pic?

Hey quick, what did you think of Graff's match?
He's sticking around, and also wrestling in the tournament on Sunday.
I think he's going to do very well!

Well as I mentioned, he really impressed me. It was only his inexperience that cost him the match.

He won a period against Russia's national champion, who beat Otarsultanov who beat up Cejudo at Junior Worlds.

I don't think the Russian wrestled very well last night, but either way Graff came out strong as has some real good attacks.

Hopefully we can see another match up this weekend.

Great pics, Spider. Who says Greco is boring? Anyway, you are definitely the man with the camera.
