Default Canadian Sr. Nationals

http://wrestling.ca/news/article.php?id=1380 has the results.

Of note is Evan Macdonald's sucessful comeback at 74. Not sure where Gentry was or if he'll get to wrestle off Macdonald for the national team spot.

looking forward to seeing even tear it up at 74 kg. Pliev is the man - he holds wins over notable opponents such as 2008 olympic bronze medalist gazumov khetag.

Pliev beat Zilberman 1-0, 1-0 according to the Canadian wrestling forums. Those two have been pretty close the past few years.

Not sure Evan has the length to be sucessful at 74 kg. He's strong as hell but he's pretty short.

Also from the Canadian web site, some controversy at 66 kg as Garcia allegedly bit Prickett in the finals.

66 kg final; it's actually a pretty good match, apart from all the referees stoppages and the "interesting" decisions those referees make. What a gong show.
A takedown for Garcia gets waved off, Prickett gets 2 magic points out of nowhere (caution on Garcia?) and wins the match, it goes to protest which is still allowed in Canada... Garcia then wins the protest round.

Protests are always a huge issue at Canadian national championships. Last time I went to the Sr's, 51 kg women's, 74 kg mens and 120 kg mens finals were all protested (though only 120 kg went through). Chris Prickett won last year's nationals in a protest match and loses this year; one of the Saskatchewan wrestlers (Folkerson?) told me that same thing happened to him at the high school level. Canada Wrestling has got to figure something out; that or just scrap the protests like FILA..

The commentary is priceless, especially at the 5:02 point of the first video

PS the Canadian forum is a mess, but it seems liek that wasn't the end of the match, that the protest round was protested, and they had yet ANOTHER protest round, also won by Garcia. What the hell?

Two questions for anyone in the know:
a) is my understanding of what happened correct?
b) what could Prickett's coaches possibly have protested in the 1st protest round? Seems pretty cut and dried.

OAWA.ca, Ankle.

Quick Single would be too good to post there. He's better than Matt Gentry.

If you're gonna talk about Matt Gentry, then instead of hassling q_s maybe you have some useful information... why didn't he wrestle? Is he going to wrestle-off against Evan Macdonald this year for the national team spot?

Should be a great series, but I think Gentry is the favorite. E-Mac won't have the strength advantage like he usually did at 66. I think Gentry wrestles a bit more tactically and wins a low-scoring series.
