    Default FILA Juniors Discussion

Tournament doesn't quite have the luster that its had the last few years what with OTT's coming up next weekend but its going on right now.

As it seems to be in every tournament at this age level 66 kilos is an absolute bloodbath. Ness v. H. Stieber, and McCauley v. J. Tsirtsis loom as possible semi final match ups.

Marstellar showed up at 74 kilos but got bounced out in the first round by a kid from the Hawkeye Club that I'd never heard of. Nazar Kulchtyskyy is back at 74 as well, he beat Chris Phillips there.

Issac Jordan is entered too, I believe.

EDIT- Just found the brackets and Issac Jordan has made it all the way to the semis after beating the 1seed in his first match! Also didn't know it but Campolattano entered late and got the 2 seed. He hasn't lost yet. Updated brackets are on trackwrestling. I tried to paste them here but it wouldn't work and now everything I type is underlined!! Oh the troubles of a computer idiot!!

    H. Stieber vs D. Ness in semis. Along with J. Tsirtsis vs D. McCauley
Campolattano vs N. Burak in semis.

A bearded H.Stieber beats Ness 2-0, 4-3 in an exciting match. Great scramble that ended in 2pts a piece in the second. Guess that makes Ness 0-2 vs Monroeville!!
McCauley kind of manhandled Tsirtsis. I didn't see the 1st period but in the second he just looked way too strong. He definitely gassed and probably would've lost a 3rd but it didn't get that far. Is that the same Tsirtsis that beat Caldwell?

Campo beats Burak 1-1, 1-0,1-0. Leg grab in the third. I wasn't that impressed though. All Campo's points came from pushouts. He looked like he was wrestling sumo.
In a side note, a kid named Adrian Cordova won the 50kg class. He is Angel Cejudo's stepson.

McCauley with the fall over Stieber. Not sure I agree with the call at all because Stieber initiated the roll and actually rolled through. I don't completely understand all of FS rules and I'm not sure Hunter does either or he certainly wouldn't have done that. He was already losing the period by what I thought was 6-0. A clear case of inexperience in the discipline. I would have loved to see more wrestling though because of the way McCauley gassed in his previous match.

Goo call IMO. I'm not sure what the rule book says exactly, but generally if you put yourself on your own back but maintain total control your opponent gets two points (like rolling onto your shoulers on a gutwrench). In any kind of scramble situation, the shoulders touch and the fall is called. Stieber was probably pinned on that earlier slam as well.

THANK YOU! That's where I got confused. He looked like he was laying on his back right near the out-of-bounds line but it wasn't scored a pin. Then they call the pin on the roll through. It didn't make sense to me. Like you said, he was pinned earlier than what they called.

More importantly... I don't think the Caldwell Tsirtsis beat is the same one that won an NCAA title in 2009
