With Cael Sanderson being our rep at 184 and cutting from over 200 pounds after a 7 year layoff from competition, do you think the weight cut will hurt him over a few days of world competition? Between travel, time zone changes and whatnot will he lose a bit because of going down so much?

He looked good at the qualifying and good, but not quite so dominating at the Open. With a few months to work on things and the weight, will it have an effect?

I believe him when he explained how the cut became progressively easier for him and he gradually made his way down. He is bigger now than he was in 2004, but he's much more disciplined today than he was then (according to him) so it wasn't as difficult as he expected. I think that the cut showed during the Open, and it will only get easier the longer he's used to the smaller size. At first, he was losing to Varner for the first time but if his body gets used to it (more than likely to happen IMO) then he will be alright by the time of Worlds.

    No.

Given that he already made 184 the biggest part of the cut is done. Dude is mature enough to know how to manage his weight. Weigh ins are the day before, he will be fine.

I don't know what wasn't dominating about his WTT performance(Not the Open, btw) He lost 1 period in 5 matches and that was a ball grab loss. He beat a World Silver medalist in 2 periods 2 times, what constitutes domination in your mind? Once most guys get up 3 or so points you don't get overly aggressive and risk an exposure, once he'd get a td and gut he'd play it safe, like many world class wrestlers do now.

Some of counters vs Jake were just sweet. Yea he beat a former silver medalist. There's yer measuring stick. In the end they don't remember if u won by DEC or TF, they look at the medal around your neck.

Not like Cael was winning many 1-0 periods, he was putting points on the bored.

I thought his timing was a bit off at the trials, not as clean with thoses ankle picks as he used to be. I'm sure that will improve with more training. Didn't look like he had weight issues.
