Akzent, any word on who will be there and who won't?

    Kudukhov for example?

    I hear Makhov is hurt?

Tsargush and Makhov won't. The federation excused them saying they were unquestionable leaders in their weight classes.

I'm sorry,, this might be kind of dumb, but is an unquestionable leader someone they think will win it, so they just keep them home to stay healthy and then they will just wrestle at the Worlds?

Yes, and in these two cases Makhov and Tsargush have won the last two world championships. Kudukhov has also won the last two worlds though, but maybe he's healthier than they are? Also, that weight class has Opan Sat who may be 2nd best 60kg wrestler in the world and always gives Kudukhov a tough match.

Yes. Because unlike other Russian wrestlers at 74 and 120, they haven't lost any international competition for the last 2 or 3 years.
Plus, Makhov has enormous problems with cutting weight.

Head coach Tedeev said that if Makhach Murtazaliev wins the nationals, he will get a chance to challenge Tsargush in a special trial.

Amen to that! Not a lot of wrestlers have beaten as many top stars at Murtazaliev.

Dunno what's going on with Kudukhov but I think Open Sat has at least an outside shot of beating him.

    Okay, thanks. Just wasn't sure.

Has the United States ever had a wrestler win two straight world titles and fail to make the world team the subsequent year? Can't think of any examples off the top of my head - Gable, Smith and Angle retired after their titles, Kemp and Terry Brands hadn't won consecutively before losing their spot, Stephen Neal won once, etc

Edit: Ah, I found one example - Rob Koll beat Kenny Monday in 1990 for the spot after Monday had won the '88 Olympics and '89 Worlds. Still, only one example versus it being a potential dilemma for Russia every single year.
